The University of Nairobi HIV Capacity Building Fellowship, funded by the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is offering a two (2) year post-masters Fellowship training.

The training program is implemented in response to the realization that there is great need and demand to increase HIV/AIDS program capacity through human resources and institutional capacity building. The program is specially designed for top level health managers at the national and county levels including county health management teams. In implementing the program, University of Nairobi is in partnership with University of Washington (UW), USA, Management Sciences for Health (MSH), USA, Kenyatta University (KU), Egerton University (EU), and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST).

Selected fellows will undergo a two-year competency based training program at the University of Nairobi and selected host institutions. This program will be delivered through either of two options; Face-to-Face or online learning. Upon successful completion of the training fellows will be awarded fellowship in the following specializations:

1. Program Management

2. Health Informatics

3. Health Economics

4. Epidemiology and Biostatistics

5. Monitoring and Evaluation

REQUIREMENTS

1. HIV Program Management Track

Master’s degree in Health or related Social and Biological sciences or equivalent from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate with at least one-year experience in the health sector.

2. Health Economics Track

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Economics, Statistics, Medicine, Health Records Management, pharmacy or any other related qualification and a Master’s degree in any relevant discipline from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate with at least one-year experience in management in the health sector.

3. Health Informatics Track

Holders of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or a related discipline, and a master’s degree in a relevant discipline (health related, mathematics related, computer science, bioinformatics, economics, health informatics), of the University of Nairobi, or an equivalent qualification from any other institution recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation Track

Master’s degree in Social or Biological Sciences with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of the University of Nairobi, or an equivalent qualification from any other institution recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate and at least one-year experience in the health sector.

5. Epidemiology and Biostatistics Track

Master’s degree in social or biological sciences with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of the University of Nairobi, or an equivalent qualification from any other institution recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate and at least one-year experience in the health sector.

 

Note: Departmental Heads at Ministry of Health, County Executive Committee members for Health (CECs), Chief Officers of Health (COHs), County Directors of Health (CDHs), County AIDS and STDS Coordinators (CASCOS) and Sub-County AIDS and STDS Coordinators (SCASCOS) are encouraged to apply

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Applicants should submit their applications through the University of Nairobi Online Application Portal at http://application.uonbi.ac.ke
  2. Applicants should thereafter forward the following to the Director, Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases using the address given below: a) Application letter b) Curriculum Vitae, c) Certified copies of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Certificates, d) Letter of support from their current employer stating their current designation, e) For applicants opting for the face-to-face mode of training, letter should indicate that they will be given full time study leave to pursue the training.
  3. An application fee of KES. 3,000.00 should be paid online using Master and Visa cards, M-PESA or through the bank as described on the University of Nairobi Online Application Portal.
