OVERVIEW OF MICRORESEARCH

Micro Research workshops provide training to do individual community based research, especially research that will improve health for mothers and children. It Encourages collaboration, meeting Coaches and mentors in Kenya and Permits an exchange of ideas, strategies and knowledge of community needs

Micro Research is aimed at improving local research capacity in Africa by unmasking the challenges of conducting basic Research and enhancing the capacity of doing basic research. This is a multidisciplinary research training workshop with hands on research proposal development.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Academic faculty staff of Universities or Tertiary level institutions in any clinical training program, such as nursing, pharmacy, social work, medicine, dentistry, Laboratory and optometry etc. are encouraged. Trainees in clinical areas who would like to become researchers will be considered.

WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED FROM YOU?

  • The workshop will take  a full  day for 2 weeks from 23rd nov to 4th December  2015
  • Deadline for application is 6thNovember 2015
  • Attend more than 85% of all the sessions
  • For those with Laptops are encouraged to come along with them

PRICE PER DELEGATE :

Successful applicants will be required to pay registration fees of Ksh 20,000(USD 250)

BENEFITS AND OUTCOMES

Training: The workshop will train up to 30 young researchers to improve their research skills. During the 2-week workshop, participants will be taught practical applied health research skills through a series of daily seminars. In parallel, 4 or 5 interdisciplinary subgroups will be formed, to move the germ of their own research idea into a rough research project.

Continuity: At the end of the workshop, everyone will be given access to a web-based clinical research curriculum so they can continue to develop their research skills. Ongoing support to do research through mentors, collaborators, research funding opportunities .

Workshop graduates can register in a Micro Research interdisciplinary group.  Each group will fine-tune a maternal or child health research question. The best question, selected by the group, will be developed into a micro-research grant proposal. 

Seed Funding: A research support program has been established to award funds of up to 175,000 KES per study for the highest scoring grant proposals. 

Publication of Research: Research project leaders will be invited to submit their work for publication in the journal “Pediatrics and Child Health”

Certificate: Certificate of attendance will be provided for those who attend for not less than 85% of the sessions

Accommodation: You will be expected to cater for your own accommodation and transport to and from the training venue .Negotiated rates for hotels around Kenyatta market are available. Contact the secretariat for more information
